Albert, the rule of thumb: If God, Jesus or the Apostles don't explicitly command it, we need not concern ourselves with it(i.e. prayers for and to the dead, etc.), right?

This issue really struck me yesterday since I had to assist a drunkard outside the church building after services to find help with his addiction and current drunkeness. If such is the emerging "church" I'll have no part. It is the work of man.

Sorry, CBC, for the confusion. I'm not as good at the spin on words as Mike from NY is. Usually he makes the comment, but he seems quite outraged at the judge. I know "gays" really aren't very happy, and try anything to be happy(except obey the Bible).

I hold to covenant theology and infant baptism and can tell you, DB, that the idea of being simply baptized isn't enough, since saving faith and repentance must also abound.

Well, Mike, it sounds like you know the latest Catholic practices better than I do. I haven't kept up much with RCC do's and don'ts, despite having once joined the RCC.

Sounds good, Mike. I'm a lover of seafood, so I have no problem with a seafood Friday, although an imposed one is an unecessary burden on the conscience.

No, Mike, they just want happy students . Isn't that what they want---just everybody be a big happy amalgamation? Sure.

I agree with Mr. Gore on much, but not all. I don't see the link between him and Rome. And having read his works, I don't think he is being manipulated by Rome nor borrowing Rome's ways. He's just doing what all politicians do---propagate their views...and that's where the word propaganda comes from. And I'm not all sure on the "Protestant America" bit, since almost a majority of "christians" now are Roman Catholic in the U.S. and much of "protestant America" is empty and dying.

God must have waited till beer was developed and now the "real" church emerges in the 21st century. But Jesus started the church much longer ago without beer's help, so logically this emerging movement is the work of men--a tradition of men if you will. "Beer is a brawler" says the Bible. And so comparing this emerging church to the Bible, the result is "Ye do nullify the word of God with your traditions."

I think IFB, No Drunkard and Chris make some good points with which I am in general agreement. As for the "kindgom of God" ideas, the Apostle Paul says it well in 1 Cor 6 that "such were some of you," but no longer...and they were homosexuals, revilers, drunkards, but were "washed and sanctified" in the name of Jesus Christ. A similar point is made in Galatians 5, classifying drunkeness along with murder, heresies, witchcraft, and others.

Your understanding of the church and heaven and the kingdom of God are different from mine, which explains your contention. We could add sin and grace to that as well.

The church emerged 2000 years ago without beer. Sounds like another church preaching a false gospel. Besides, the Apostles unanimously taught that drunkards aren't inheriting heaven.

My concern with these people(prosperity teachers) is their propensity to teach minimal truth. Sure, money is important and God provides, but there is much in the Bible that must go along with a Christian lifestyle. I think the prosperity movement lacks in the teaching of fruits of the Spirit, repentance, sin, and sanctification, because they get so hung up on a verse here and there talking about wealth or health. Teachers and preachers need to hand the WHOLE counsel of God to the congregation, not just the candy.

The term is still in effect and worthy of use--albeit correct usage, because there are many "protestants" by heritage instead of conviction and practice. And people were protesting the abuse of the Roman bishop long before Martin Luther came on the scene, and error still needs to be opposed today.

They're still preaching a false gospel--Mr. Graham, Pat Robertson, etc. Simply being "well-known" means nothing in the scope of Biblical truth and living Christianity.

Interesting how the article's title separates Pentecostals and Protestants. I think there was a time when Pentecostals were rightly considered Protestants, but most now are more devoted to men's words and culture instead of the Holy Bible, it seems to me.

Not long ago a pastor at a Baptist church not far away from here was charged with two counts of sexual misconduct with children.
