Yes, Jim, somewhat more faithful than the opposing viewpoint(cessationism), and the Assemblies of God expelled Mr.Swaggart, so your accusation is mute.

I'll stay clear of the beer, and this "emerging 'church'" movement.

A pen and paper work best. At least have a back-up source in case the disk gets damaged or computer fails to work or enjoys the disk for a meal .

The gifts and manifestations of the Holy Spirit are given by the will of the Spirit(1 Cor. 12:11), not according to a Baptist seminary's theological code of conduct. "Forbid not to speak with tongues."

They'll be better off in the EPC. At least it is more scriptural than the PCUSA.

Jim,
French, of course...most of Calvin's stuff, I suppose(minus a couple of the tulip pedals)...also Finnish...and yes, the Bible in English, Finnish, French, and Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic, etc. Most important things were in something else other than English till it got translated, so you're sort of correct. At least that's my opinion, but if you hold to a different theology(which I know we both do) then your point of view is different. It's relative to one's doctrinal position I suppose. If your favorite theologians/pastors are English or German, I see how you get your answer. For you it's English and German, for me: Latin, German, Finnish and probably French(although I hold reservations on embracing all of Calvinism), and English. And I venture to say English has probably been the primary means of communication of heresies, not to say that other countries haven't had their share, because they have.

Jim,

"All the important theological writings are in German and English."

Hardly.

Neil, I attempted Latin because I thought it would help my French studies. I dropped the Latin course and passed French with excellent scores. The other part of my linguistic hobby is Finnish, and despite it being called possibly one of the hardest languages for an English speaker, I'd venture to say Latin is harder at least from a grammatical point, maybe not in vocabulary. I do agree language study is important--it helped me narrow my career choices, since I discovered my skills at language learning. So being a language instructor and/or translator (or a related field) is what I will most likely be for the years to come, thanks to my French teacher in high school who urged me to sign up for the class.

Let it be known that I'd never support such a church that prepares "super" bowl parties. Good points from Jerry below.

The cessationists are void of answers also, so I am not sure what the point is, cbc. I ask a question, I get an explanation. You ask a question, I give an explanation, but that's about all that happens. I don't intend to alter my convictions and we've gone round and round enough. The cessation is yet to come and that's where I stand and I've given you my reasons from scripture why I believe that.

It's no surprise that rampant consumerism erodes humans in body mind and soul. I had to sift my way through it to get to work today

Yes, organizations which are opposed to the homosexual movement should be exempt from giving children to homosexual couples. Further, those who engage in homosexual behavior are not inheriting heaven(1 Cor. 9:10-11)

Well, John, if you truly confessed your sins and asked pardon of them, and were assured of this forgiveness from the pastor, then you were forgiven. But remember, Jesus is Lord and you should take his word seriously. I don't believe everything except John 3:16 and Romans 10 is just there to fill in the pages. It's there for a reason. Read your Bible faithfully and often. Remember "Be ye doers of the word and not hearers only." And there's more to do in there than just Romans 10.

Alan,
The "they" in the last sentence is in reference to popes. Although I suppose it could also refer to early church councils and the writings of early Christians. Men-only pastorate is the mandate of God and was understood as such by Jesus and the Apostles. If He wanted it different, he could have ordained a woman, a man changed to a woman, or a homosexual. See you later...it's bed time over here. I used to live in Washington...near Bremerton. What part of Washington are you in?

Same-sex "marriages" are already and always will be void, bill or no bill. But I give Wyoming credit for making a bill to render newcomers to the state as void and single if previously "united" in supposed "marriage."

I can't really list a time period as convictions to fast come and go and I take each with discernment. However, I pray much more frequently than I fast.

The only people who have legitimate literal scriptural authority to lead a congregation are men--not men who became women nor women who became men, no homosexuals either. It is clear and simple and has been maintained for 2000 years. However, I suppose some might think of men-only pastorates as an invention of some pope or other. Well, they haven't been wrong on every point of doctrine.
