How could anyone who has studied different religions believe that by compromising our beliefs (or the teaching of scripture)it would lead to unity. One must see that to do so is to have complete disunity with everyone doing and saying as he pleases. The Jews and Muslims would not compromise on their beliefs, so why should a Christian even consider it.
Whoever you are "from the Fanciful land of the Calvinist." The God I worship is found in scripture. He knew me before I was born, He knit me together in my mother's womb, He called me and justified me, and sanctified me, and will continue His work until the day I see Him face to face. He is the God who called Abram from the land of His fathers and requires His people to give Him all the glory. He is not a fanciful product of the imagination I can follow or not as the whim takes me.
Michael That is a load of rubbish and you know it. The man courts and gets to know the woman before asking her to marry Him. God opens our eyes and tells us of our sinfulness and need for regeneration before asking us to follow Him. He gives us the faith and the knowledge to accept His offer. Without Him we could do nothing and in fact would wish to do nothing.
DB The point I'm making is that when we're told Paul was known in the whole world, it did not mean he was known in China or even Egypt. The whosoever means those who God has called, or foreknown, or elected. The others will not hear His voice.
If I went on holiday to see the world, it does not mean I saw every nook and cranny. In the same way to say Christ has died for the world does not mean He died for all individual people. Only those the Spirit calls or draws can and do come to Him. The others are as we were, lost.
I will again post my statement which received no comment. Has anyone, anywhere, actually tape recorded a session where people were using this gift, and taken the recording to a university or such like where the languages could be determined and perhaps translations made. My reading of scripture tells me it is not to be used in public unless it is translated, mainly so the speaker knows by what spirit he speaks.

John, Rick warren's books and theology are dangerous and I believe they lead many astray. Some years ago our pastor lead us through the 40 day programme. The church felt good about itself for a while and then fell away in some basic areas of doctrine. Some of us tried to counter the weekly teaching with Biblical teaching but Rick is very subtle in the way he writes.
How could you call yourself an evangelical theologian and not know that God does know the future. All you have to do is open and read your bible. Not only does He know it but He has it planned.
Jay A relative of ours in the wesleyan methodist church, some years ago told us he was perfect. It was rather obvious to all that he wasn't. Some churches teach that sinless perfection is possible here on earth. I believe our standing before God is in Christ and therefore perfect but on this earth we still struggle every day to grow more like Him.
I'm shocked at the good christian folk who are happy to dress their children as devils, witches, goblins etc and send them out to knock on the doors of strangers. The custom is starting to be seen here in australia as well. Though I do note that most christian schools and many of the state schools refuse to have anything to do with it. Praise the Lord.
If it is important that you are put right under the water, the top of the head must be the most important part to be wet, so why not just wet that part as a symbol of the whole process. This is just a lot of noise about an unimportant subject. The thief on the cross was certainly not wet at all. Does that signify that he was not saved despite Christ's words.
