Idea: Be sanctified by pursuing sexual purity.
Intro: It must be said that the culture around you is charged with sexuality. You can't go through a normal life without being assaulted on every side with provocative images, conversations and relationships. It can feel like you are swimming upstream. Do you know what I mean? A river or stream has a current. The water flows toward the ocean, and often times that current is very strong. If you swim in it you can very easily be carried along by the current, and just float down stream. But if you want to go the other direction, if you want to swim upstream, you have to expend a lot of effort to go this direction while the water is carrying you that direction.
The current of the culture around you flows in the direction of sexual immorality. It's easy to be carried along by that current. In this light, Paul calls believers to be sanctified. Commentator Andrew Young says, “Believers are to live holy and self-controlled lives, especially in the realm of sexual relations.” Put simply, be sanctified by pursuing sexual purity.
