Idea: God has adopted you, therefore, abide in Him.
Intro: John shifts into a new major section of his letter at this point. A broad heading for this section could be called “The Life of Righteousness.” John will explain what the persevering Christian life looks like. John first alluded to this theme back in chapter one when he wrote about God being light, and that you, as His followers, must also walk in that light as enabled by the Holy Spirit.
In these verses John urges you to practice the life of righteousness based on your adoption. Children abide in Jesus.
1. Children of God abide in Jesus because He will come again, calling all to account.
2. Children of God abide in Jesus because they are born again.
3. Children of God abide in Jesus because of the Father's love.
4. Children of God abide even though the world rejects them.
5. Children of God abide in Jesus because of the promise of complete sanctification. |
