Your Brother's Keeper

There are certain relationships in life in which we have obligations to others without being their protectors or those who would confine them. As a child grows, the parents must limit his activities and loosen the restrictions as he matures.

It is not for us to imprison or enslave others on a whim. Human rulers have often done this by taking political prisoners, ensalving citizens, or forcing young women into a harem. This sort of authority and control is not for one person to exercise over another although it is done. Those who are enslaved or imprisioned often yearn to be free and may seek libery in extreme ways.

God, on the other hand, as our Creator, has the authority to be our Keeper. He not only made us but also gave us our purpose in life. To rebel against God and His will is to reject the purpose for which we were created.

We must realize that, as our Keeper, God is good to those who love Him and submit to Him. There are, however, sinful longings of our hearts to break free of His authority. But when you submit fully to God, you will see that His goodness is in all the trials He brings your way as well as in the things you enjoy.
