Doug Wilson is one of the main proponents of the Federal Vision heresy, which denies justification by faith alone along with many other foundational biblical doctrines. Many free Christian resources refuting Doug Wilson (including my debate with Doug, entitled, _Saul in the Cave of Adullam: A Testimony Against the Fashionable Sub-Calvinism of Doug Wilson (Editor of Credenda/Agenda Magazine); and, for Classical Protestantism and the Attainments of the Second Reformation_) and others who promote the Federal Vision heresy are at: http://www.swrb.com/newslett/freebook/dwilson.htm -- "Doug Wilson, Credenda/Agenda Magazine, the new Auburn Avenue Theology and Federal Vision Heresies (by Steve Wilkins, Steve Schlissel, John Barach and Doug Wilson - the Auburn Four), N.T. Wright (the New Perspective on Paul), John Frame, Richard Gaffin, Norman Shepherd, the Cave of Adullam, etc., Refuted. With Free Online MP3 and Text Resources Related To The Present Justification Controversy."

Here is one more quote from Spurgeon's preaching related to this news article:

"... and I will go as far as Martin Luther, in that strong assertion of his, where he says, 'If any man doth ascribe of salvation, even the very least, to the free will of man, he knoweth nothing of grace, and he hath not learnt Jesus Christ aright.' It may seem a harsh sentiment; but he who in his soul believes that man does of his own free will turn to God, cannot have been taught of God, for that is one of the first principles taught us when God begins with us, that we have neither will nor power, but that He gives both; that He is 'Alpha and Omega' in the salvation of men." (Charles H. Spurgeon from the sermon 'Free Will A Slave' (1855) referring to Martin Luther's book The Bondage of the Will, cited in "Arminianism: The Road to Rome!" at http://www.swrb.com/newslett/actualNLs/RHNarmin.htm).

Here is another pertinent quote from Spurgeon's preaching related to this news article on Calvinism:

"We hold -- we are not afraid to say that we believe -- that Christ came into this world with the intention of saving "a multitude which no man can number;" and we believe that as the result of this, every person for whom He died must, beyond the shadow of a doubt, be cleansed from sin, and stand, washed in blood, before the Father's throne. We do not believe that Christ made any effectual atonement for those who are for ever damned; we dare not think that the blood of Christ was ever shed with the intention of saving those whom God foreknew never could be saved, and some of whom were even in Hell when Christ, according to some men's account, died to save them" (C. H. Spurgeon, from the sermon, Particular Redemption, Delivered February 28, 1858, at the Music Hall, Royal Surrey Gardens and cited at http://www.swrb.com/newslett/freebook/calvin.htm).

Here is a pertinent quote from Charles Spurgeon's preaching:

"What is the heresy of Rome, but the addition of something to the perfect merits of Jesus Christ -- the bringing in of the works of the flesh, to assist in our justification? And what is the heresy of Arminianism but the addition of something to the work of the Redeemer? Every heresy, if brought to the touchstone, will discover itself here. I have my own private opinion that there is no such thing as preaching Christ and Him crucified, unless we preach what nowadays is called Calvinism. It is a nickname to call it Calvinism; Calvinism is the gospel, and nothing else... nor can I comprehend a gospel which lets saints fall away after they are called, and suffers the children of God to be burned in the fires of damnation after having once believed in Jesus. Such a gospel I abhor (From the sermon A Defense of Calvinism and cited at http://www.swrb.com/newslett/freebook/calvin.htm).

Let the Scripture speak:

Ephesians 1:4
According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

Ephesians 1:5
Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

Ephesians 1:11
In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

Romans 9:11
(For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth

Romans 9:12
It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.

Romans 9:13
As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

Romans 9:15
For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

Romans 9:16
So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

As you will see among all the FREE RESOURCES (book and MP3s) at "Eschatology, Antichrist and the Last Days" at http://www.swrb.com/newslett/FREEBOOK/eschatol.htm we have listed numerous items from many people that are not part of the church or denomination noted in the previous post. We promote truth wherever it is found, which is why Phil Johnson states of us (Still Waters Revival Books) "A great source for Puritan, Reformed and Covenanter works. Also many fine bound photocopy reprints of otherwise unavailable books." Don't be afraid of the classic Reformation, Covenanter and Puritan teaching, which we specialize in -- and which we prove, promote and publish through the source documents of the first and second Reformations. And don't be afraid of the truth regarding eschatology, which is called Historicism, which is found in all the classic Reformation creeds, covenants and confessions -- because this is what our Reformation forefathers learned through scripture via the teaching of the Holy Spirit.
