I worked in what is generally termed "closed country." In this society, nice, decent, modest women wear pants. The only women who wear skirts in the general population are the rebellious and those who either are someone's mistress, or are advertising that they are willing to be one. (There are a few exceptions, such as waitresses at some restaurants who dress in ancient traditional qi pao's).

The only ladies here who consistently wear skirts are those who have been reached by Fundy American "fishermen," who tell them they have to. In fact, some of them have gotten in trouble when going to visit their brethren in underground fellowships outside the big cities (which is where the Fundy's tend to work). Their sisters in those fellowships were so appalled they showed up in skirts that they made them change before entering their fellowship.

Interesting, no?

Had to read this because so many immature believers I know were panting after it like the newest Nike shoe. (The fact that they were ones who loved it was alarm buzzer number one...)

Trite. Empty. Vapid. Ignorant. Immature. Fluff. Those are the best adjectives I can use to describe it.

Those who disdain creeds and confessions ignore, or are not aware of an important point: Everyone has a confession. Every church, every pastor--even the most violently anti-confessional--has an opinion and practice on baptism, witnessing, the Lord's Supper, church membership, church government, parental responsibility, church discipline and a dozen other issues. Despite the often rather prideful claim that "we just believe the Bible," what they believe is their interpretation of the Bible. Those who attend the church in the main all agree with these interpretations and this unspoken creed, and those who choose to leave or who are not welcomed generally do not.

To say you "just believe the Bible" is, at the best, blindly arrogant (you know best?) and, at worst, disingenuous. You have a creed, and you preach or heard it preached every Sunday in your church.
