Wayne posted:

"Mike from NY,

"It might serve well to remember what sovereignty is."

I just did a search on an electronic Bible and found the word sovereign is not in the KJV 1611 version.

I'm just curious what version and verse you see the term sovereign God or sovereign Lord? Can you give a few verses for examples?

Also, I am wondering if the word sovereign when used as an adjective before the word Lord or God seems rather odd? Doesn't the word God or Lord imply all the qualities of God which includes His sovereignty? It makes one wonder whether putting that word before God or Lord, in modern translations, actually detracts from what the word God or Lord means by itself?

By specifying or emphasizing just one characteristic of God, and not mentioning all the others, could that somehow detract from who God is?

The term God itself should imply sovereignty without having to add the word to it wouldn't you think? Also, if the word is not included in the original manuscripts, what right do translators have to add the word in modern versions?"
