No. The Calvinist needs a little bit more.

I give you a simple seclarative statement from Scripture, and you fill up your post with mumble jumble all to change "God so loved the world" to "God so loved a few."

Now who is doing the twisting?

Unfortunately, we have not drunk the Red-Coolaid yet.

We much rather believe that God means what he states and states what he means.

I would love to see where you get your information. With all the problems you see in modern medicine, one wonders how they are able to stay in business in a free market society.

You may want to move to Mars, if you want to get away from the problems of this world.

And I do not know what kind of god you have but my God worketh all things for good to them that love him. With a humble dependence on him, he can easily use a doctor to heal your infirmities as he can use the teacher to teach your kids and the landscape guy to mow your lawn.

BTW,

Calvinism is the natural disaster and I am the guy in the helicopter with the Weapon of Mass Instruction sticking out on both sides.

God did not promise to heal you and to do for you what you can for yourself.

Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God is still in the Bible.

Abigail, you do not know what foolishness is. Foolishness is not eveything that conflicts with your pet peeves and pharisaical attitude.

And know, it does not contradict the other Scriptures placed forth if you care to rightly divide it.

It is sad to to see some elevate the confessions above the Bible . Some who come on site here appear to be convinced that Christianity emerged only during the Reformation.

"To tell you the truth, I think only problems arise when folks with no background in Biblical language, history or culture claim that they are being lead by the Spirit and don’t need to learn anything to understand the Bible."

There is such a thing as being willfully ignorant and studying to show thyself approved. There is also such a thing as the cultural mandate by God to dominate the world as set forth in Genesis 2 and to do ALL things hardily as unto the Lord.

Their is a certain pride that comes from many who are willfully ignorant. A humble spirit wants to learn (if you should learn anything about proverbs) and God likes to give wisdom to those that you ask him as he did with Solomon.

There is also a certain pride of those that are learned as well, but that is only because they think that they have reached a level where they think they are beyond being taught.

It's the same problem in both instances.

I happen to believe that if there is anyone that should excel in the sciences, it should be the Christian, for it is he and he only that is ever so close to the one who created the laws that govern them.

So I guess Abigail never laughs.

I'd hate to be around her.

BTW, I sang some of those hymns last night and JD's joke was not even in my mind.

Pharisee, learn to enjoy life.

"Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled."
I Tim 1:15

Ha! Its kinda like the guy on top of the rooftop waiting for God to deliver him from the rising flood. He rejected the boat, the life jacket, and the helicopter under the pretense of waiting on God to help him. When he finally drowned and stood before God he asked, "Lord, why did you not deliver me?" The Lord responded with, "I tried. I send you the boat, life jacket, and the helicopter; but you rejected all three."

"This statement, despite its affirmation of preservation of the text, commits one to (i) the original text in the original languages as the final court of appeal, and (ii) accurate translation "into the vulgar language of every nation unto which they come."

But yet he does not believe the statement: by "His singular care and providence kept pure in all ages."

That's why he likes to take an axe to the Word of God. He sees it his role as to tell us how one part or the other part of the Bible is not accurately translated. So much more preservation.

God's truth will always reconcile with any truth out there. We just need to discern where empirical evidence stops and when faith begins; there are things that God has ordained that we should not know. But if it is recorded history and natural science, then we should expect to find it in empirical evidence.

Used correctly (as Neil implied) can only yield devastating results.

I think creeds are good and necessary so long as they are not above the Bible.
