An oportunity for those Christians who are totally Israel crazed to donate animals to the Israelis. Perhaps pin a NT passage to your poochs' tail before donating? Wadayareckon Jim?
The apostle Paul (who saw the Lord Jesus and was his ambassador) said: 1Cor 11v14 "Does not even nature itself teach you, that man, if he have long hair, it is a dishonour to him?"
Well we know from scripture that Jesus definitely didn't have long hair!
Lance, if you read the 'Ante Nicene Fathers' (early church writings) you will see that there was clearly no Pope during that period, neither was any special significance given to the Bishop of the Church at Rome.
They generally believed that Peter did visit Rome at some point, but as noted above this was of no special significance to them at all.
The amazing thing is that this new revised bible just materialised over time, thought possibly to come from a very old comic book that was left laying about by a caveperson.
Hello Anonb, I was reffering to the previous rantings of one 'fdlka' on this thread - the posts have since been deleted, so the below comments won't make much sense anymore.
John says "We eventually find we are not interested in sin anymore and the old temptations from the world just fall off."
Only if you actively put to death the flesh. Unfortunately we have our fleshly wills right up to our last breath.
From your posts do I discern a lack of much emphasis on the writings of the Apostle Paul to the Church? He was very specific about judging sin and didn't just hope it would go away one day so to speak.
Is your emphasis more on the actions of Jesus before he died (pre-church period) rather than the epistles and instructions to the church? Would this be a general theme for the Emergents, or have I misunderstood?
David writes "The dead cannot do anything for themselves, and that includes hearing, either inwardly or outwardly until such time as they receive power from God."
The problem is you have a fleshly, natural view of death and not a biblical one. To the natural unbelieving man death means the absolute end; a rotting corpse. But the believer understands that death is not the end at all and only a separation.
The rich man died and went to hades from where he appealed to father Abraham. Yet according to you he couldn't even hear, far less think, make decisions and communicate.
Im afraid your reasoning on this is natural, rather like Nicodemus was.
The bible tells me there are believers and unbelievers; Christians and non-Christians if you like. For that reason I try to avoid sectarian titles as I don't see them as being biblical myself. The bible identifies the local church by its geographic position.
But I understand many other Christians - including many friends of mine - don't share my view on this and that is their matter of course. Probably not the answer you were looking for sorry....
Thanks Clementine.... as we both know Saturday is the Sabbath day which God has proclaimed a day of rest. I don't think this has been exactly entirely dispensed with - for this reason I don't think Christians should work (paid employment) on the Sabbath if it is possible to avoid doing this; best to spend time with your family if you can.
But the Sunday / Lords day / 1st day of the week has a special meaning for Christians and thus is more significant than the Sabbath (Saturday).
If your reformed tradition suggests both days to be named the Sabbath that is fine but personally I find that a little bit confusing (being a simple mind and all). But I understand the honourable desire to connect with the saints in the OT times. God bless you too!
