Defending Historic Reformation (Biblical) Worship The sovereignty of God in worship is a main point of this message; God's will versus man's will (or "will worship") in public worship. Are you a Arminian or Calvinist when it comes to worship? This MP3 will help you answer this question. This message also does a good job of pointing out how various elements of Roman Catholic worship have infiltrated Protestant churches in the years since the first and second Reformations. Some of the resources cited in this message, as well as much more on Reformation (Biblical) worship, including a number of free on-line Reformation books and MP3s defending historic Reformation (Biblical) worship, can be found listed "Reformation Worship, the Regulative Principle, Iconoclasm, etc.," at http://www.swrb.com/newslett/freebook/refworsh.htm. |

All Christians should listen to this message. The following quote by John Calvin fits well with this sermon,
"If it be asked, then, by what things chiefly the Christian religion has a standing amongst us, and maintains its truth, it will be found that the following two not only occupy the principal place, but comprehend under them all the other parts, and consequently the whole substance of Christianity, viz., a knowledge first, of the right way to worship God; and secondly of the source from which salvation is to be sought. When these are kept out of view, though we may glory in the name of Christians, our profession is empty and vain."
- John Calvin as cited in War Against the Idols (book on sale at http://www.swrb.com/catalog/e.htm), p. 198 under "EIRE, CARLOS." Carlos Eire is citing from Calvin's On the Necessity of Reforming the Church, which is FREE ONLINE at: http://www.swrb.com/newslett/actualnls/NRC_ch00.htm. |

Six volumes of Purtian sermons. Thanks for the comment and the readings Thomas! These Puritan sermons, the "Morning Exercises at Cripplegate," are available in six volumes at http://www.swrb.com/catalog/l.htm. These books include sermons by John Owen, Thomas Watson, Thomas Manton, Matthew Poole, Richard Baxter, William Greenhill, James Janeway, Edmund Calamy, Thomas Vincent and many others. Volumes vary in length from 624 to 804 pages and cover a great number of topics that are essential to the Puritan view of God, the world and the Christian life. The Preface notes, "This celebrated collection of useful and orthodox theology consists... of practical as well as doctrinal discourses, preached by some of the most eminent divines of the 17th century, and published at irregular intervals between the years 1660 and 1691." Volume six, "The Morning Exercises against Popery; or the principal Errors of the Church of Rome detected and confuted... has always been deemed a standard book on that great controversy," which even in that day was "recently revived." |

The following two MP3s, by the famous Puritan John Owen, add to what is stated in the blog above:Antichrist's (Rome's) Idolatry Rebuked 1/2 http://www.sermonaudio.com/sermoninfo.asp?SID=980116119 Antichrist's (Rome's) Idolatry Rebuked 2/2 http://www.sermonaudio.com/sermoninfo.asp?SID=9801162332 Owen shows the futility of "ceremonies, vestments, gestures, ornaments, music, altars, images, paintings and bodily veneration," as proceeding from the will of man, and not God, in His own worship! A real spiritual feast defending biblical (Reformation) worship. |

John Otis makes many good points on this MP3. John Otis makes many good points on this MP3.
John's book, _Danger In the Camp: An Analysis and Refutation of the Heresies of the Federal Vision_, mentioned on this MP3, is available on sermonaudio at http://www.sermonaudio.com/source_prodinfo.asp?PID=we112205111711.
It is also sad to hear how far Steve Schlissel has fallen from the truth (and one other MP3 on sermonaudio, though I forget the title at the moment, even noted that Steve has already shared the "pulpit" in a friendly manner, at one conference, with Roman Catholics).
Many more free online resources refuting the Federal Vision heresy may also be found at this sermonaudio blog:

BOOK REVIEW: "Reformed" is Not Enough by Douglas Wilson reviewed by Dr. Matthew McMahon at "A Puritan's Mind."This extensive book review contains much more proof that Doug Wilson is not only not Reformed (using the confessional and historic meaning of the word), but that he is also ignorant of many classic Reformation doctrines. Dr. McMahon writes, "Innovation and originality in theology are the parents of all heresy. Douglas Wilson in his book, "Reformed" is Not Enough demonstrates this subtly but effectively. To the untrained eye his arguments may sound cohesive, helpful and clarifying. To the trained eye his arguments are heretical, and his work demonstrates his theological and historical ignorance." This review is must reading, as it exposes much false teaching -- and is free online at: http://www.apuritansmind.com/BookReviews/Sourpuss/WilsonDouglasReformedNotEnough.htm |
