Micheal, believe me when I say how humble I am at what God has done, I have spent many nights crying over this amazing grace, saving a wretched sinner such as myself. I never wanted anything to do with Christ, I avoided Christians, church, the bible, and religious t.v. and radio. It wasn't until God brought me to my knees and broke my prideful heart that I saw myself, for the first time, as I truly was...totally lost, with absolutely no hope. I cried, tears flowing from my eyes, and begged God to save me. That was when He heard me, and He answered. But before He could hear me and answer me, He had to bring me down from my rebellious state. I feel awful because I have stooped to Casob's level of sarcasm and spirited posts, that is why I don't like debating too much. We must know when to pull back, pray, and allow the Lord to grant understanding on all parts. I failed to do that earlier, may God forgive me.

Casob, swallow your pride, you have not hit a sore spot. Don't gloat, remember what happened to Satan when he did as you are doing. Getting back to John 15:16, notice the order Christ gives, First, He chooses, then, He appoints us for service to Him and His kingdom. You twist the word of God to fit into your neat little false arrogant belief. Why do you dance around the question of how you made your 'decision' for Christ? How did it come to be that a mortal man, who by nature, rejects the living God and His son, all of a sudden one day changes his mind, w/o the help of the great I AM? BTW, are you JD in disguise? Do you know dishonesty is a sin as well as pride and arrogance?
Please, bless us with your testimony of how you decided upon Christ apart from divine intervention.
You seem to have just enough false knowledge to be very dangerous, to yourself and all who may stumble over your deceptive false teaching. It seems the majority of those who post here have caught on to your deception, you'll find no takers here, praise be to God!!

Casob, since you feel superior in biblical knowledge over all who post, how did you decide for Christ? Did you just wake up one morning and say, 'Lord, today's the day!' Or was it an afternoon decision? What were the circumstances surrounding your 'decision'?
Why do you feel you are the ONLY one with any sense? Isn't that another form of arrogance? Much like the "I chose Jesus" philosophy you profess? Do you have a clear understanding on what pride is all about?
Being saved is NOT a flippant decision one makes on a whim, the heart must be broken over sin, humbled, and cry out for forgiveness. How does 'self' fit into that? How does one humble their own heart, apart from divine intervention? You can twist scripture all day long to fit your arrogant dogma, but most on this forum know better. Why? Because we have been granted understanding from Almighty God, we know apart from Him we are nothing, and add nothing to the salvation plan. It's called true, genuine humility. Again, you have a 'head knowledge' but you are void of the power of God's Holy Spirit. May God be merciful to you.

So Casob, when you are wrong, that is how you respond? By insulting the opposition? How sad for you, pride is indeed a terrible sin, extremely hard to swallow.

The verses you point out in John 12 have nothing to do with making a 'decision', it refers to belief vs. unbelief, those who reject the truth. Why do people reject? Because of their unbelief, their hearts remain hardened. They suppress the truth. "You did NOT choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit" John 15:16

True believers bear fruit {John 15}.
You seem to believe you have authority to condemn, you claim you made a decision for Christ, and if I haven't, then I am lost and on my way to hell {posted 6/2 at 8:13 am}. So if I don't agree with your views, I am doomed?!
Yes, born again believers still stumble, but that is why 1 John 1:9 is so important.
May God grant wisdom, understanding, and discernment to all who diligently seek such.
"A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be GENTLE to all, able to teach, patient, in HUMILITY correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance so that they may know the truth'. 2 Timothy 2:24-25

Lone Wolf, Yes, every man is responsible to repent and believe, but my point is God is the one who draws, humbles, and saves the brokenhearted sinner, the one who, upon being humbled by the Almighty, cries out for forgiveness. This is the Godly sorrow of in 2 Cor. 7:10. Your statement, 'where I differ from the Pelagians and Arminians is that they can come to Christ by their own power, without the working of God's grace' is exactly my point. When we respond to the call, it still is God who gets the credit...He is the one who started the whole thing by drawing and humbling the proud, arrogant heart of the lost sinner. Too many have walked an aisle and made a decision, yet their hearts are unchanged...the evidence is in the fruit. They may possess some head knowledge, but they are entirely void of the power of the Holy Spirit. Why? Because they believe they have initiated their own salvation.

What brought you to your point of decision? Was it spur of the moment? Or did God work in you a humbling moment that led to your repentance? God is the initial starting point of salvation, and He must draw and humble us; it is impossible for anyone to make a decision for Christ. We, by nature, reject God and run the opposite direction. Because of our sinful hearts, God has to draw and humble...so you see, you haven't made any choice or decision for Him apart from His divine intervention in your heart. He starts and finishes His work of salvation, He gets all glory and honor. To take credit is to take away from His powerful work, and claiming you have the ability to come to Christ on your own accord. "No one seeks God"-that's what His word says-there's no getting around that.

BWS, Praise God for your boldness to speak out against the superficial Christianity in America. The greatest need for the gospel truth is right here in the USA. Sadly, the word faith movement, as well as the new age movement, and the emerging movement have all enticed many into their web of deceit. Joel Osteen's 'your best life now' is in violation of the true gospel. Christ warns, 'if they hate you, remember, they hated me first' {my paraphrasing}, Rick Warren is spewing out more deception as he travels the globe with his message of deceit. Most just want to have their itching ears scratched with a message that does not offend, or mention 'sin', 'repentance', 'judgment', or 'wrath'. This kind of message does NOT fill the pews. Yes, false teachers fill their pews, and in the process, fill the broad road to destruction. Let us all remember to stand firm in the faith, preaching the gospel in love boldly as the Spirit leads. God bless. Come quickly Lord Jesus

Sherry, your story is so encouraging, our God is awesome! Yet there are MANY who are caught up in this new age deception, emerging, word faith, etc. The apostasy is so overwhelming today, it is hard to keep track. That is why it is so essential to bury ourselves in God's word alone, and praying for His wisdom and discernment to be imparted to us through the Holy Spirit. Rick Warren mixes just enough scripture with his deception to sound believable, and that is why he is so-o-o dangerous. Again, let's do as the Bereans did, search the scriptures daily to see if what is being spewed out lines up with the word of God. The road is indeed narrow, and we are to strive to enter through the narrow gate. Jesus new we would continually swim upstream, He knew we would struggle. All odds would seem to be against us, but, praise be to God, because Christ has overcome the world, we too will overcome!! God bless!!!

When someone says, 'I made a decision for Christ', who is taking credit for salvation? Is it not the individual? God is not on His throne waiting for anyone to 'make a decision' for Christ, He draws whom He wills, humbles, and saves. It is His plan of salvation, He gets all the glory. That is the problem with those who believe they had a hand in it. The heart is sinful at birth, and we reject God;"There is no one righteous, not even one, there is no one who understands, NO ONE who seeks God" Romans 3:10,11... how is it then, we could ever by our own power come to Christ when God's word says different?

Vessel's statement was quite clear, God is the one who draws the lost sinner to Christ, just as Jesus himself states in John 6:44. We remain lost sinners unless we are humbled by God, and brought to repentance. Yes, God does love the world, but those who reject Him will pay their own price for their sins. Sometimes we over-complicate what was supposed to be simple; no man can claim he/she made a 'decision' for Jesus, for this is boasting { pride is what got Satan booted from Heaven}. May God grant wisdom, understanding, and discernment to all who love Him and truly belong to Him.

Sherry, Amen!! Rick Warren believes all denominations have a 'common bond'. He sings the praises of the Roman Catholic Church, which is a false, apostate faith {faith based solely on scripture is the only true saving faith}. I know God saved me, He called me out of darkness and humbled me, I had nothing to do with it. I cried out for Him at my lowest point, and He saved me. I now live to serve Him, who is coming again. This one world religion that is in the works {of which R.W. is a big part of} is all part of God's plan for the end time scenario. People, read your bibles! Pray over the word! Beg for discernment! Men like Rick Warren are why it is essential for true believers to trust NO MAN, search the scriptures daily, be sober, alert and pray, pray, pray.

GG, You do not understand, you can't. It hasn't been given to you from above to understand. {Luke 24:45 clearly states Christ gives us the ability to comprehend the scriptures}. The church Christ builds {He builds it, not the RCC}, is NOT based on any one denomination, people are called out from every denomination, from every part of the globe, and granted the new birth. Christ's church isn't labeled as any one denomination, for many go to various churches, but we all are one in Christ, if we have truly been saved. We have the unity of the saving faith, the knowledge and understanding granted from above, and are sealed with the Holy Spirit.
You place your faith and trust in what one particular denomination believes, which is in direct opposition to the word of God as the sole authority. That is why you do not comprehend what the protestant faith is about. It is based SOLELY on scripture. No one comes to Christ unless the Father grants it {John 6:44}. Your belief that God only works in and through the RCC is in direct violation of scripture. Please, open up His holy word and pray, asking for understanding and salvation; may He speak to your heart, humbling you and bringing you to true repentance.

I think those who agree with Rick Warren's way of preaching need to do research into what he preaches. This man preaches a gospel contrary to sound doctrine, and insists on uniting all faiths for the sake of tolerance. This is the big push for the one world religion, the great harlot of Revelation. Here is a link revealing his deception, www.watcherslamlp.blogspot.com/2008/05/peace-coalition-harlotry-rising.html
Or go to this link, www.apprising.org/archives/rick_warren/index.html
Remember the warnings of Christ, "Take heed that no one deceives you, for many will come in my name" -Matthew 24:4...pray for discernment, these are perilous times filled with apostacy and deception with many wolves in sheep's clothing.
Let's also remember to follow Christ ONLY, and not be loyal to any man or woman, but devote our hearts solely to Christ and the word of God. Be good Bereans and search the scriptures daily, lest you be overcome and dragged off in the sea of heresy.

Liberal Christian, I think you meant to quote Proverbs 11:25, 'The liberal {Hebrew-brakah-blessed, prosperity, generous} soul shall be made fat, and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.' This refers to being generous, giving to those in need, and God will bless those who do such. It is not a reference to a liberal way of thinking.

Proverbs 1:25, 'But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof'
Isa. 32:5, 'The vile person shall no more be called liberal {from Hebrew nadiyb- generous, free, noble, willing [hearted]}nor the churl {withholding} said to be bountiful'
The meaning of scripture is explained with scripture, and by studying the original language.

GG- sound doctrine is found in God's word alone, standing solely on it, not following church doctrine first, but following scripture, as it is written. Nothing added to it, nothing subtracted from it. Your church breaks many commandments, one of them being idol worship. You pray to a woman who you claim is the mother of God, but the true mother of God is in heaven with Christ, unaware of what is taking place on this earth. She cannot help you, she cannot hear you. We are to pray to the one true God, the only God, for He is a jealous God. You take the Lord's supper and make a mockery of it, claiming a mortal sinful priest can make something holy, when he himself is riddled with wickedness. Christ paid the sin debt in full, and commands us to partake in his body and blood in remembrance of this payment. You say water baptism saves, again nullifying Christ's work on the cross. If we only needed to be sprinkled with water, then why did Christ leave His heavenly domain, come down to earth and suffer a horrific death on a cross, then be resurrected so that we too may be resurrected? You are the self-righteous one, not me. I cleave to Christ alone, you cleave to man-made sacred tradition, which is nothing more than vain worship at best.

gg- I do not respect a faith that contradicts sound doctrine, those who are truly born again are called to defend the gospel and rebuke apostacy. It is the deception of the RCC teaching that all who truly belong to Christ will speak out against, the deceit and lies taught through RCC church doctrine are an abomination to the Lord. Those whom God has saved are aware of this and can see the deception, for God has granted us discernment. Those lost in the deceptive teachings defend a church tradition, not upholding solely the word of God and obeying Christ, but following man-made doctrine first, and fighting tooth and nail for it. IF we were to keep silent, the Lord would be very much displeased. Our battle is not against flesh and blood, but the evil forces behind all false teaching and those driven by it.
