I get pod casts delivered to my ITunes everyday, by subscribing to the website that delivers them,(they are mostly free) and it is wonderful. I also have them saved in my libruary so I can listen to them anytime. I get "way of the master" radio which is a wonderful program to listen to, and other podcasts from various churches etc. I listen to them and at times download them on to my sons I pod (when he lets me borrow it)

The modern podcasting provides a way to enjoy our favorite broadcasts without radio, tv, or having to sit there on schedule. We simply download the entire message (mp3, wma, etc), or let a system feed it to us (RSS, bit torrent). For years you could buy audio books, get the Bible, and other major titles. Now you can get sermons, use iTunes to subscribe to "The American View", or go to ThisWeekInTech.com or GRC.com/securitynow, and get regular features. If you are clever you can save PaulHarvey.com so you can listen to the 15 minute new update any time, not just at noon on the radio. The industrious can save it to their ipod or muvo or CD and listen to it in the car instead of having to sit near an Internet connection. So far I mostly download from mp3/wma sources, but I started using bit torrent for the 600-700 megabyte downloads so they don't disrupt my neighborhood broadband connection - next I will investigate the RSS methods so I can "subscribe" and get the podcast content as soon as it is available without having to specifically go and download each one. iTunes lets you subscribe to some, though some of them want you to resubscribe every several weeks. Meanwhile I also enjoyed Zak's humorous entry!

First a definition of a "pod."
"A dry dehiscent pericarp or fruit that is composed of one or more carpels."

"PodCasting" - Is a local inter village contest in Nerdshire, England. Basically two teams of nine people compete to "cast" the inevitable three month old pods, into a waiting receptacle, usually a welly-boot.
The casting itself is carried out using a fly-caster fishing rod, and the contestants may be handicapped depending upon their experience from previous years. A handicap may take the form of a blindfold or tying both hands behind their back.
The winning team are those who have managed to cast the largest number of pods into the welly-boot.
Americans, Canadians and Australians... etc. are quite welcome to enter teams to this all-comers Nerdshire extravagansa, which takes place at the end of the pod harvest.
