“ Hope! ” With a reported 50% divorce rate scandal, even in the church, perhaps it's only the Amish, considering divorce unthinkable, who offer hope to the unbelieving, hurting and dying world. Thank you.
“ Thankful to the Lord... ” and brother David for this instructive and encouraging teaching from Deuteronomy 3. It was especially helpful as regards Presbyterian unity in doctrine and the application to life of what is commanded. In the difficulty of the warefare with the world, the flesh and the devil, if we reflect on God's past mercies it will encourage our faith and hope for future mercies.
It brought to mind Romans 12:5-18. Especially verse 6 "Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;" The example of Mr. Alexander Peden whose faith was the reason for his boldness in prayer and his ability to apply the prophetic word of Scripture to the times in which his hap was cast, made him bold in the preaching of it and forthright in its application.
O that the Lord would increase his poor Kirk's faith to fervent prayer and powerful preaching for the difficult days ahead with an eye to our children and our children's children's future, as he pointed out. Psalm 90
“ Excellent sermon ” This was a great message, and well worth the time. In my case at least, a good part of what was said is not new material, but the way it was expressed made it clearer, or gave me a different perspective (the fact that his accent is wonderful is an added bonus). David Silversides is a man who fears God and is not afraid to speak the truth, even if it happens to be uncomfortable.
“ Thankful to the Lord... ” and brother David for this message based on Jeremiah 12:7-17. It gives the reasons why the people of God but in particular those in the office of pastors and teachers, that Christ has given his Church; together with a covenanted magistracy should be much in prayer regarding the former and in humble subjection to the Law of the King of kings in the case of the later. This matter greatly concerns the third angel of Reformation's message according to Rev.14: 9-12
The enemy of all righteousness has been well defined by Kirk's historic testimony. Coming to the close of the 1260 years of the great falling away, (as it appears from Scripture) hastens to a conclusion; Ought we not to reflect on the former times of reformation mercifully granted by the Lord our Shepherd? Might we not again expect seasons of refreshing from the presence of the Lord, when we repent; turning FROM our sins against our covenant mercies that were granted us by our Prophet, Priest and King and UNTO the Head of His Church? 2 Cor.7:10-11
“ Great Sermon! ” I really enjoyed this sermon because it helped me to really look beyond the surface of love. What I enjoyed most about this sermon was the fact that Rev. David Sliversides told the truth and did not sugar coat the Word of God. He gave the Truth and left the decision up to the listener to take heed to God's Word.
“ Thank You ” Thank You Rev. Silversides for making a highly unpopular statement that needed to be made regarding having a proper perspective of C.S. Lewis and his writings.
And in response to the previous comment, it is not necessary to present a balanced view of anyone who's "bad" teachings and beliefs are on a fundamental level, such as Lewis's denial of biblical inerrancy. When one's errors are of such an essential nature, whatever "good" he may teach is academic at best, or alluring toward damnable heresies at worst, as all teachings or teachers do that mix truth with fatal error.
“ Well Done ” In this sermon Rev. David Silversides expounds on Jeremiah 8:1-3 on how God hates idolatry known as religious pluralism, and how deceived the human heart is.
“ God centered. ” God exalted in Calvin's life and theology. Hid theology and life were God centered, not man centered. This message stresses this point.
“ Great Sermon! ” A well done sermon by Rev. Silversides, the main point throughout the sermon is, the glory of God is the end of all things, with a highlight on prayer.
“ Thank You! ” Thank you Rev. Silversides for this sermon on Luke 1:46-48 with some thoughts on Psalm singing. I've had some coldness of heart lately I should sing more in my heart.
“ Excellent ” This is a fascinating and engrossing message. Well done Rev. Silversides! The history of the Scottish Psalter and the extraordinary translation work from the Hebrew which went into it, is all to sadly a story which many Christians do not know or appreciate. The learned men of God who put so much academic and erudite expertise into this wee book, by God's grace, is a historic pleasure to behold indeed. Thank you David Silversides.
