A great depth of comforting truth underlies the beautiful imagery and poetic simplicity of this familiar psalm. The peace and comfort provided by the Savior (verses 1-3) meet the cross-current of darkness and evil (verse 4), only to emerge stronger than before in eternity (verses 5-6). “The Lord is my shepherd” is a truth later expounded in all of its depth and glory by the Good Shepherd Himself (John 10).
The Good Shepherd gives His life for His sheep. Jesus Christ our Shepherd gives us the salvation and sanctity that we need. He is our protection and guidance. We have been given the promise of His presence at a table with Him.
Grow in faith and in love for the Good Shepherd, who gave everything for us.
