Jesus warns you against “the sin of disquieting, distracting, distrustful cares about things of this life, which are a bad sign that both the treasure and the heart are on earth.” M. Henry
DO NOT WORRY …
I. BECAUSE OF YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER (vv. 25,26)
Worry: to be anxious, concerned, or distracted.
An all-encompassing command: “your life”
“Worry is a thin stream of fear that trickles through the mind, which, if encouraged, will cut a channel so wide that all other thoughts will be drained out.”
Jesus' 2 arguments: • v. 25 = a fortiori: life/food, body/clothing • v. 26 = a minore: birds
II. BECAUSE IT IS USELESS & DESTRUCTIVE (vv.27, 34)
“Worry affects circulation, the heart, the glands, and the whole nervous system. I have never known a man to die of overwork, but I have known a lot who died of worry.” Dr. Charles Mayo
Worrying about tomorrow (v. 34)
III. BECAUSE IT IS ANTITHETICAL YOUR FAITH (vv. 28-30)
Christianity defined
“Worry is the antithesis of practical trust in God.” R.T. France
The thorns which choke the good seed are “the worry of the world and the deceitfulness of riches.” Matt. 13:22
