SERMON INFO
1 Corinthians 11:23-26 -- Twice in that short passage, we are told to observe the Lord's Supper in remembrance of Christ. In this we see one of the central meanings of the sacrament – this is the command from Christ Himself – to "do this in remembrance of me." What does it mean to remember Christ? What does is mean to do this, in remembrance of Him? It almost seems too simple to ask, but what does it mean to do something in remembrance of someone? Are we just calling Jesus to mind? Is it just being careful not to forget Him? We say: remember to feed the dog. Or Don't forget to feed the dog. That's how we define remembering – as the opposite of forgetting. But when we look at the Biblical idea of remembrance, we find something that is much deeper than just calling something to mind – i.e. the opposite of forgetting. Rather, Biblical remembrance is envisioned as an act of worship – as a spiritual discipline. So our goal today, will be to examine the 3 different facets of Biblical Remembrance.

REMEMBERING CHRIST INVOLVES ...

I. LISTENING TO GOD & OBEYING HIS COMMANDMENTS (vv. 24,25)
a. Psalm 119:52, 55 – Remembering defined.
b. Exodus 20:8-11 – The 4th Commandment
II. TURNING TO CHRIST IN FAITH & FOR FAITH (v. 25)
a. Psalm 22:27 – Remembering = turning to God & worshiping Him
b. 2 Tim. 2:8
III. EMBRACING & PROCLAIMING CHRIST (vv. 25, 26)
a. 1 Cor. 11:25 – The Covenant in Christ's Blood
b. 1 Cor. 11:26 – The Sacrament proclaims Christ
