Getting exhausted by the busyness of life is not a modern problem, so we can learn something from Paul about how to avoid “burnout.” His unceasing activity amazes. In these verses we read that he sailed from Corinth to Ephesus, then all the way to Caeserea, then walked to Antioch and across Asia Minor back to Ephesus. How did he keep going and obey his own command in Galatians 6:9 not to grow weary in doing good? In these verses we see that he kept up a lively relationship with God. He made a vow to him and kept it. He also accepted God's Providence, as he made plain when he said to believers in Ephesus that he would return “if God wills.” Lastly, he made great effort to maintain relations with other believers: he stayed with Christian coworkers, he went all the way back to Antioch to visit with them, he went to churches he had founded and strengthened them. A lively relationship with God, submission to God's Providence, and continued Christian fellowship are Paul's three keys to keeping going in the calling that God gave to him.
