SERMON INFO
Introduction

• Remembering the background

• An encouragement to balance the warning.

• The problem with promises

3 solid facts that we must use to strengthen our faith and hope.

I: Past Evidence of God’s Faithfulness (vv. 13-16)

The example of Abraham (Gen. 22, Heb. 6:13)

The living proof of God’s faithfulness (vv. 14,15)

The promise confirmed with an oath (v. 16)

II: The Heirs of the Promise (vv. 17-18)

The promise and the oath were not just for Abraham (Gen. 22:18; Heb. 6:17)

The promise and the oath show clearly that _____________ ______________ was the fulfillment of this promise to Abraham.

The purpose of the oath (v. 18): God made a promise and confirmed it with an oath so that we might have our hope strengthened.

Setting up the argument of ch. 7 (7:21)

III: The Invisible Anchor (vv. 19-20)

The difficulty: The spiritual nature of the Christian Faith.

The Metaphor (v. 19): The anchor is most valuable when it is _______________.

Jesus our anchor (vv. 19,20)

4 ways in which we take hold of the hope set before us:
