I first read the Purpose Driven Life as a baby Christian and thought it was the greatest thing. I bought copies for all of my family members and friends. Then two years later, after growing in the faith, I thought I would re-read it next to the Bible so that I could more richly enjoy it. What I found dropped my jaw! Almost every Biblical reference in the book was horribly out of context or used a translation that inferred something contradictory to every other translation.Furthermore, I found it fascinating that the first line of the book tells the reader "it's not about you", and then every page thereafter tells the reader the opposite. Rick Warren's and Bill Hybel's drivel is bad theology at best and poison to the church at worst. I have attended a number of "Purpose Driven" churches over the last few years and without exception, the PD model eroded the spiritual core of the church. The externals were great, and the church grew in numbers. But the spiritual center of the church rotted away. I have known a number of street evangelists who make a point of handing out tracts and preaching the Gospel outside of some of these "churches". Almost without fail, the churchgoers are completely ignorant of the Gospel - but they hear great sermons on the family! |

It's astonishing to me that people who claim to be Christian conservatives would offer their political allegiance to an unbeliever, especially a member of an aggressive cult. Mr. Romney is a pagan and shouldn't be involved at all with the U.S.Government, but so are several other presidential candidates.Perhaps it is that many of today's "Christian conservatives" aren't Christian at all. The Church at large today is filled to overflowing with unbelievers, whom Scripture tells us we will know by their fruit. Advocacy of homosexual behavior is part of the reprobate fruit of these unbelievers in "The Church". Though I cannot claim that we are in the "end times", Christians supporting a member of the Mormon cult is certainly "going about deceiving and being deceived". Two years ago, I joined The Constitution Party, the only political party where I ever have had membership. Not only do I see no reason to change, but see less reason today to be part of any other political party! Ephesians 5:11 (ESV) tells us, "Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them". Mormonism is an unfruitful work of darkness, regarding which I am compelled to follow God's admonition in Joshua 24: 14-15, " . . . . But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." |
