"You forgot to mention 2 Chronicles 4:22 and Genesis 1:1 to prove your point.
Yes, anyone can cut and paste scripture passages without any consideration of context.
Now tell me speaking of what God stating what he means and picking a verse that actually deals with the argument, what part of " whether there be tongues, they shall cease" do you find so hard to understand from I Corinthians 13:8?"
______

No theological explanation can prove that I Cor 13:8 states the gifts of the spirit have ceased. I know they have not because I have experienced and do experience some of them.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Why don't your believe the Word of God then?

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; (Mar 16:17)

They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. (Mar 16:18)

But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. (1Co 12:7)

To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; (1Co 12:9)

To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: (1Co 12:10)

I could not help but smile after reading your prayer… you do know that it is common knowledge that almost all Arminians do actually pray like they were Calvinists…as reading your posts today below make me convinced you have no earthly idea about Amazing Grace!
______

We have devotion, honor, and gratitude to the Sovereign Holy God even as Calvinists claim to have. The difference is, we submit ourselves to the Redeemer of our own free will because we love Him and appreciate the price He paid for our salvation with redemption from hell. We give our lives a living sacrifice to Him because He gave Himself a dying sacrifice for us. We were wayward, sinful, creatures caring for nothing but self until He shined His glorious light of the Gospel into our hearts revealing the truth of self and Himself. The infilling of the Holy Ghost gives us awesome reverence, respect, and fear of the Sovereign God that is greatly to be feared because He is a consuming fire.

We use the same words as you but we speak a different language because of our understanding of the Amazing Grace and infinite knowledge, wisdom, and love the Almighty God wants to share with His creatures through His Word, Spirit, and gifts.

"You have been in my prayers since I first met you through the Spirit in these forums. But I must ask also for your prayers, and only for YOURS, for he will hear and heed only the righteous. What I desire above all else is supernatural power from God to heal physically and mentally the drug addicts, shake dancers, streetwalkers, criminals, murderers, and mentally unstable men and women on pharmaceutical substances that I encounter everyday."

Spiritual, I will fervently pray that God endues you with the power of the first Pentecost in Acts and uses you for His glory for the deliverance of souls from the bondage of Satan and the salvation of many souls . Blessings to you for your labor of love for the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

"Oh come on Jim;
I want to do my own salvation just like the Pope teaches. I mean whats so difficult about it? As for a few measly sins?…"
______

Dear Father, I humbly kneel before you beseeching your mercy and grace through the Lord Jesus Christ who died on the cross for my sins. I confess I am a wretched sinner worthy of nothing. By your grace, dear Lord, have mercy on my wretched soul. I plead the atoning blood of Jesus Christ, the holy Lamb of God, asking forgiveness for my transgressions against your holy law and the cleansing of His holy blood. I confess that within myself, I am worthy of nothing, I can do nothing. I pray for deliverance from deceitful self and for the infilling of your Spirit that illuminates the heart and teaches the righteousness of your laws. Implant your laws in my heart that I may not sin against thee. Lead me by thy Spirit in paths of righteousness for you namesake. Give me the will, determination, and strength to follow your laws and precepts by the power of the Holy Ghost. I humbly submit my life to thee, dear Lord. Accept my life—a living sacrifice into Thy Kingdom. Keep me from evil by thy convicting Spirit and whet my conscience to repentance if I sin against thee. Lead me in paths of righteousnes for thy namesake. I pray in the Name of J

" 1Peter 1
2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied."
_____

Jesus called the disciples from the world and from the worldly order. They followed—of their own free will. Had they not followed, he would have chosen others to continue the work He started during His ministry and ordained that His ministers should carry the Gospel to the nations.

Jesus said they had not chosen Him, but He had chosen them. Many are called but few are chosen. The chosen are those that willingly follow. They are the elect. All the saints of God are the elect because they have responded to His love.

The love of God is a compelling force that the human heart responds to when the gospel is preached and the price of salvation paid by our loving, precious Savior on the Cross of Calvary is revealed to their hearts through the preaching of the Word accompanied by the convicting power of God.

" John 8:31,32
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
1 John 2:27,28
These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
So let me ask you why do Calvinsts desire to turn people away from studying the Scriptures for themselves first?"

Excerps from "Why God Used D. L. Moody"
by R. A. Torrey

1. He was a fully surrendered man
2. He was a man of prayer
3. He was a deep and practical student of the Bible
4. He was a humble man
5. He had entire freedom from the love of money
6. He had a consuming passion for the salvation of the lost
7. He was definitely endued with power from on high

July 8, 1894, the closing day of the Northfield Student's Conference—the gathering of the students from the eastern colleges. He spoke on "The Baptism With the Holy Spirit and How to Get it."

He had the students gather at 3:00PM upon a mountainside.

Mr. Moody said, "Young men, I can't see any reason why we shouldn't kneel down here right now and ask God that the Holy Ghost may fall upon us just as definitely as He fell upon the apostles on the Day of Pentecost. Let us pray."

Heavy clouds began gathering over Northfield and raindrops began to fall—but there was another cloud and the Holy Ghost fell upon us. Men and women, that is what we all need the Baptism with the Holy Ghost.

"Abigail, Paul was evidently aware of heresies then as now. Read the history of the Mormons(angels talking to Joseph Smith and then we have the Book of Mormon). Read about all the apparitions in Catholic experience(angels, saints, and so on telling people to do this or that, often times contrary to the scriptures). Galatians 4 clearly show the problem among the Galatians…Who went to hell? Unless the Apostle says who went to hell I can't give you an answer. Those who are accursed will be in hell.
______

Angels talking to Joseph Smith and the apparitions in false religions have nothing to do with the holy angels of God. They are ministers of Satan. The holy angels of God are ministering spirits according to Heb. 1:14.

Are [the angels] not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation? (Heb 1:13-14).

The Galatians were holy saints of God. They were new converts that needed correction because of false teachers that had come in with perversions of the gospel. Paul's closing remark in his letter to them is "Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen." (Gal 6:18)
Paul could not address them as brethren if they were not.

"Taking a look at Galatians 1 and 4 it's evident the heresies plaguing the Roman and Orthodox Catholic churches were alive then also: Angels with messages, observing days, abstaining from certain foods, celibate clergy, etc. The Apostles called it another gospel and declared them accursed twice. "
_____

No angels with messages are recorded in Galatians. However, they were in the Book of Revelations—so
messages from angels is not anti-scriptural. Nothing about abstaining from certain foods or celibate clergy is found in Galatians 1-4.

Paul said even IF an angel from heaven preached another gospel, let him be accursed.

False ministers of the Jews had come among them and were perverting the gospel. Paul was issuing correction because of these heresies. Paul told of his conversion. He said in 1:20 that being crucified with Christ and Christ living in him is a life lived by the faith of the Son of God. He said he that works miracles among you does it by the hearing of faith.

He warned them against observance of days, months, times and years, which the false Jews brought in.

Speaking of the false Jews, he said they zealously affect you but not well.

Do you think they went to hell?

A. The duties required in the ninth commandment are, the preserving and promoting of truth between man and man (Zech.viii.16), and the good name of our neighbour, as well as our own (3Jn.12); appearing and standing for the truth (Prov.xxxi.8-9); and from the heart (Ps.xv.2), sincerely (2Chron.xix.9), freely (1Sam.xix.4-5), clearly (Josh.vii.19), and fully (2Sam.xiv.18-20), speaking the truth, and only the truth, in matters of judgment and justice (Lev.xix.15, Prov.xiv.5 & 25),"

"Spiritual and Abigail would make the Pharisees green with envy. "
_______

The Pharisees hated Jesus and were trying to put Him to death during His entire ministry. They were blind and did not accept Him as their Messiah. They said He was of the devil. Look at the castigation that Jesus spoke to them. How can you compare Spiritual to these vile men?

For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. (Mat 23:4)

But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, (Mat 23:5)

And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, (Mat 23:6)

And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. (Mat 23:7)

But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. (Mat 23:13)

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation. (Mat 23:14)

Woe unto you, scribes and Phar

"Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, ***have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?***
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: ***depart from me, ye that work iniquity.***" (Matt.7:21-23)
It is amazing to see this testimony before our very eyes in this generation!"
______

Because your do not believe in the gifts of the Spirit and the power of God you are unable to comprehend the meaning of this and many other Scriptures.

Mar 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that **believe**; In my **name** shall they **cast out devils**; they shall speak with new tongues;

In the verses you are referring to, Jesus is saying to those who claim to do those things in His name while they have not crucified the flesh and are still living in iniquity to depart from Him, for He never knew them.

He is not saying that those who are truly walking in the Spirit and have the power that He promised are workers of iniquity because they are doing the wonders He promised.

"If one does not understand Rome influence in the history of the Pentecostals, I would encourage you to study history carefully."
_______

Opponents of Pentecostalism have written many books, which I have not read. From my studies of the Pentecostal Movement, it began in the 1800's by some which were seeking holiness and godliness, and they were endued with the gift of the Spirit. The Pentecostal churches sprang up after the Azusa St. revival in LA, CA., in 1906. Catholicism had nothing to do with the movement. The humble people upon whom the Spirit fell studied the Word of God and prayed for revival. God answered their prayers with a mighty move of the Spirit.

The revival quickly waned because of contention of the flesh—which is always a trick of Satan to destory the work of God. It happened in the Book of Acts and it happens any time God outpours out His Spirit. Satan uses the weakness and short comings of the flesh in an attempt to destroy the work of God.
But God has a remnant that will not be deterred by Satan and will carry forth the message of salvation and holiness in the face of every foe.
