How wonderful to think that, rather than being a mere afterthought,God planned the salvation of His elect from all eternity!

Sermon:
Temporal And Eternal
Rev David Silversides
1
comment
“ Great Sermon! ”
If we live for the things of this world, we will come to a time when all we have lived for is slipping away from us, and is then gone. But if we live for God and for Heaven, then we have a portion which we can never lose, and to which we are always drawing ever nearer. Be wise, and live for that which is everlasting! "For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out." I Timothy 6:7

Sermon:
The biblical view of church government
Rev David Silversides
1
comment
“ Great Sermon! ”
Many assume that the form of church government is a matter of indifference, and that it can be ordered according to mere human wisdom and convenience. However, Christ bought His church with His dying love, and, as her King and Head, has appointed a form of government for her in Scripture, so that to ignore Christ's appointed form of church government is to despise both His authority and His love. In this sermon, Pastor Silversides demonstrates the biblical foundations of presbyterian church government, which is alone the form of church government appointed by Jesus Christ, and hence of Divine right.

The Prodigal Son 1 of 7
Samuel Rutherford

“ Great Sermon! ”
In this sermon, Rutherford probes the causes for men's turning away from the Lord Jesus Christ, who is all goodness and love, and especially examines the reasons why young people depart from Him. How sweet it is that He warmly receives every repentant prodigal!

Truly, there is nothing new under the sun! God brings about similar historical circumstances in the progressing eras of history because man's fallen nature is the same in every era, and therefore the same lessons need to be taught, generation after generation. A great lesson from church history!

Sermon:
Safety In The Father's Love
Rev David Silversides
1
comment
“ Great Sermon! ”
"Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." Luke 12:32 The Christian believer possesses safety and security in the love of God the Father, both for time, and for eternity. What an immense blessing and privilege this is, and how we should rest securely in it, trusting our Heavenly Father for all things, and praising and glorifying Him for His amazing goodness and love towards us!

Sermon:
The 2nd Commandment
Gavin Beers
1
comment
“ Excellent Sermon! ”
"If it be inquired, then, by what things chiefly the Christian religion has a standing existence amongst us, and maintains its truth, it will be found that the following two not only occupy the principal place, but comprehend under them all the other parts, and consequently the whole substance of Christianity; a knowledge, first, of the mode in which God is duly worshipped; and, secondly, of the source from which salvation is to be obtained." In our humanistic, man-centered age, these words of John Calvin seem strange. We consider the salvation of men to be of supreme importance, and the worship of God to be a means to this end. However, this is a backwards view of things, which must be abandoned. We are saved in order that we might worship the true and living God in Spirit and in truth, according to His own appointment, and not according to our own desires. Pastor Beers clearly sets forth the requirements of the Second Commandment, which forbids anything in the worship of God not expressly appointed by God Himself. Be sure to listen to this critically important sermon!

Although Tertullian, Cyprian, and Origen made valuable contributions to the church, they also planted seeds which would yield bad fruit in later times. How carefully we should walk, knowing that the errors of even godly men can lead to negative consequences!
