Man has the right from God alone, not from some man-made document, to make, keep, and use weapons for hunting purposes and defense against animal attacks. No license or registration required by anyone. Period!

As for guns in particular I personally do not care for them. I prefer the traditional bow myself. I do hope to get into spears and knives in the future.

FYI, yes you're right. Hopefully some lurkers may benefit though.

Neil, agree. I'd also have some additional concerns, but I do believe he's the best non-christian critic of state-schooling.

A functional fridge, car, and a wage-slave job actually make some people unhappy.

"The most insidious of the many kinds of power is the power to define happiness. It is the dream of merchants, despots, managers, and philosophers, because whoever defines happiness can control the organization and the actions of other men: he not only assigns aspirations and desires, he constructs the system of morals by which the means of achieving happiness is judged." from "The Oppressed Middle", by Earl Shorris, quoted in the book below.

Ok, if the general opinion is that the rod is a literal tree branch, can it also be something like a pipe, belt, or paddle?

"The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame."

"Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him."

Thanks fellas. Do you think this rod is a tree branch?

"The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame."

"Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him."

The Underground History of American Education: A Schoolteacher’s Intimate Investigation Into the Prison of Modern Schooling, by John Taylor Gatto

The whole book is available online so you don't have spend any FRN's and wait for the shipment. It might take a little while to read, but let me know what you all think when finished.

Greetings again, it's been too long now I must say.

Shall we proceed with our edifying discussion regarding the two proverbs?

"The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame."

"Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him."

Would the "rod" spoken of in Proverbs be literal or figurative? Mi amigo Alan in Chile says it could be both. Feel free to chime in with your opinions.

Hi Mike, are you saying the rod must be a tree branch then?

Buenes Tardes!

Whether the rod be literal or figurative would be a great study in itself, though I do admit it may be somewhat time-consuming. So let us just consider here that the rod is literal as tradition teaches.

With that said, I'd like to know what this rod is and what it can be. Would it have to be a tree branch? Can it be a steel pipe? Some sort of plastic apparatus? How long/thick?

Thanks for the help.

No need to drift off. My last question was rather simple, focusing on the 2 proverbs at this time.

"The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame."

"Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him."

If you all are gonna say literal then we may go from there. I have to run out and pick up the farm-fresh, unadulterated milk and then do a little slave work for awhile, so think about it during the day and I'll check back later. Adios.

Good morning folks,

I'd like to stay focused on the 2 proverbs that RV listed if we can, thanks.

Miguel provides a Strong's definition for rod so we can go from here.

Would this rod be literal or figurative?

Welcome RV, thanks for the response.

I do have some questions if you don't mind.

What is the rod?

Who is the child?

And, are these proverbs referring to father, mother, and their own children?

Good night.

Yes John, I know, there's not much wisdom to be found on SA. Sadly the attitude here is pretty typical of the so-called civilized peoples that supposedly know the true God.

Come on fellas, can I give my infant 100 lashes til he's black and blue? Can I knock some sense into Billy Graham with 100 big ones too? Can I scourge a son in the faith?

Stepping out for awhile. I'll look forward to some clear scriptural answers later.

401965, don't get disturbed. I'm most willing to hear the Holy Spirit but you haven't and now refuse to provide scriptures for me to heed. The rather vague proverbs already given do not address the questions.

I do caution you with your prideful, look-at-me, "I pray" statement. What's the motive for telling someone you pray?

Yes Mike, far off.

Those that hit weaker people should be horrified if they can't find scriptural support for doing so.

"The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward
parts of the belly."

Ok, who is the beater and who is the beatee? Can I fashion a whip and start scourging Billy Graham and all the local heretical self-professed pastors?

As for real persecution, it's already here in "America," but Christians don't see or feel it because they're fornicators with the State. Ignore this false god and see what happens!!

Hitting with the hand or some device is what I mean.

Thanks for your opinion Mike, but I'm looking for scriptural support for hitting sons and daughters.
