From the Foreword: David Bogue (1750-1825) was a Congregationalist pastor and prominent figure in the missionary movement that led to the formation of the London Missionary Society. The present work is produced to encourage God's people living under the shadow of militant Islam. Not all readers will agree with every interpretation of Scripture given. The style is typical of the age in which Bogue lived and sometimes a little quaint and the anticipated downfall of Islam as possibly imminent was premature. Nevertheless, his analysis of Islam in both its origins and as a system that accommodates man's worst sinful lusts and requires only conformity to a set of external rules without a change of heart, is very accurate. His insistence on Islam's crowning flaw of seeing no necessity for an atonement (meaning Islam's God is not really holy and just, whatever is claimed) needs to be heard.
