Sermon Point: God calls you to covenant renewal as you enter a new era with new leadership.
Outline: 1. The reproach of Egypt rests upon the older generation, uncircumcised in heart, which does not listen and perishes (Joshua 5:5-6). 2. But the Lord of hosts leads His people into a new era; so too Christ leads you (Joshua 5:1 and 13-15). 3. First of all, the Lord renews His covenant with the new generation; they are circumcised; you are baptized (Joshua 5:2-3 and 7-8). 4. When the sign of the covenant is applied, your reproach is removed; the new era begins (Joshua 5:4, 7 and 9). 5. Covenant renewal continues with Passover; the wilderness is behind and the new era begins; the Lords' supper is similar (Joshua 5:10, 4:19). 6. When the covenant is renewed and the new era begins, the people eat of the land and the manna ceases (Joshua 5:11-12).
