This sermon is a general invitation to consider one's response to the call of Christ and an invitation to the saints to partake of the sacrament of the Lord's Table.
Many were offended at the teaching of Jesus Christ as recorded in John chapter 6, and many of the disciples depart leaving only The Twelve. Christ asks them “Do you want to go away as well?” Jesus' timeless question is both a heart searching question and a faith strengthening question for the disciples, and His question is for the church today. All people who name the name of Christ must answer the question for themselves, and the answer to this question will determine one's standing before God.
Peter as a spokesman for The Twelve answers the question saying that Jesus is the Christ with the very words of eternal life. Peter gives a heartfelt answer and acknowledges that there is nowhere and none to whom they could go to satisfy the needs of their souls. Peter may not have understood these teachings at the time they were given, but he is determined to follow Christ at all costs.
