How can we reach the Lord? This passage is a visual representation of what it takes to reach the Lord. Jesus gives us a gracious invitation. He calls us to Himself; He beckons us with the words, "Come to me." But, how can we come to Him? This sermon sets before us the way to answer Jesus' invitation. We must simply go to Him. It is not something that is of ourselves, but if He commands that we come, there is no obstacle in heaven or on earth that can keep us from reaching our Savior. What He commands, He will accomplish in us, and so faith simply launches upon our quest. Faith simply ventures upon Christ. He makes the way through the storm, He provides the way upon the water. If He says, "Come," the measure of what is possible is not found in what lies between ourselves and Christ, the destination. What makes our journey possible is the one who has commanded and faith goes out to him. |
