When exercising Christian freedom, it requires that we be sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Freedom in one circumstance does not necessarily entitle the Christian to exercise that freedom in another. During Paul's ministry, he was adamant, in the face of good counsel, to proceed to Jerusalem, (Acts 21:4,12), and the Spirit confirmed his convictions. (Acts 21:13,14) However, later in this same chapter, Paul submitted to the counsel of the elders, in Jerusalem, as recorded in verses 20-26. We must seek the conviction of the Holy Spirit, whether to persevere in our convictions when necessary or to yield to the convictions of others when serviceable. |
