Jon, I was blessed as I listened to your level headed approach to this subject. Also your exegesis of Lukes account was instructive. I was with you in prayer as you closed. Your friend and brother, Mark F. Dublin.

1Co 14:33-35

For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

Bishop Ussher, The emminent Irishman of the 17th Century put great energy into this subject.

I agree with him and others that the earth is only about 6000 years of age. Quite old for a person but just a spring chicken for a planet!

Mark.

This is what Mr Strong has to say.

bap-tid'-zo
From a derivative of G911; to make whelmed (that is, fully wet); used only (in the New Testament) of ceremonial ablution, especially (technically) of the ordinance of Christian baptism: - baptist, baptize, wash.

Seems that immersion is the meaning. You can only get "fully wet" by immersion, not sprinkling or pouring!

By the way, James Strong was a Methodist. So bias not an issue here!!!

Mark.

I believe the comments of John Gill are helpful on this.

"this regards the everlasting love of God to his own people, his delight in them, and approbation of them; in this sense he knew them, he foreknew them from everlasting, affectionately loved
them, and took infinite delight and pleasure in them; and this is the foundation of their predestination and election, of their conformity to Christ, of their calling, justification, and glorification: for these"
